Queen Latifah Update (Sept. 2026): Her First Night as a Voice Coach Is Monday, and She's Teasing New Music

Short version: Queen Latifah coaches The Voice for the first time on Monday, Sept. 21. She is one of two new chairs this season, and she has spent the run-up hinting that a music release is attached to it.

What is actually new here?

The chair itself. NBC confirmed the Season 30 panel in May: Adam Levine and Kelly Clarkson back, Riley Green and Queen Latifah in.

That is a genuinely unusual booking for the show. The Voice has leaned on pop, country and R&B coaches for most of its run; a rapper with a three-decade catalog in the chair changes what a contestant can reasonably ask for in a rehearsal room.

It also changes the arithmetic of the Blinds. A singer who raps, or who wants to arrange a song around a verse instead of a key change, has had no obvious chair to aim at on this show for years. Now there is one.

The other new name is Riley Green, a country artist, which leaves the panel split two returning and two new. NBC did not replace one coach and call it a refresh — half the chairs turned over at once.

NBC needs the season to land. America's Got Talent wraps its own finale two nights after her debut, which leaves The Voice and The Traitors: New Blood carrying the network's unscripted fall.

What has she said about taking the job?

That she did her homework. Before signing, she called John Legend — a former coach and one of the few people who has done the job while also holding an EGOT — for what she described as insider information.

She has also been open that the timing suits her. CBS wrapped The Equalizer after five seasons, and she said at the time that she would be back in something new soon.

The entrance she made on set fit that. NBC released a clip of her arriving at the Blind Auditions on the back of a motorcycle with host Carson Daly — a bit that only works if the person doing it is comfortable being the new one in the room.

Is there new music coming?

She says yes, without a date. In an NBC interview ahead of her debut she described songs she has held onto for years and framed the coming release as a mix of hip-hop, jazz and soul.

No label, no title and no release window have been announced. We are treating it as a tease until one of those three shows up.

When does she actually appear?

Monday, Sept. 21, 8 p.m. ET on NBC, in a two-hour Blind Auditions premiere. Episodes land on Peacock the following day.

What should you watch for?

Two things, both cheap to check on night one.

First, whether she blocks. New coaches usually save their block for later in the Blinds; the ones who spend it early tend to be the ones building a genre team on purpose.

Second, who she loses. The interesting tell is not the artist she wins, it is the rapper or spoken-word singer who picks Clarkson or Levine over her anyway.

There is a third, slower one. Four hours of Blinds across three nights is a lot of screen time for a first-time coach, and it usually settles the question of whether a panel has chemistry before the Battles start. Watch how often the other three let her finish a pitch.

One practical note for Monday: The Voice has the 8 p.m. hour to itself that night. From Tuesday it is sharing NBC with the AGT finale, and sharing the wider night with DWTS and the rest of the week's listings.
